Two Naperville Teens Receive Scholarships to Help Grow their Future!
Friends of Danada is always looking for ways to engage with the local youth. This engagement comes in many forms. One is the Down on the Farm field trip program, 3rd and 4th grade students and interested groups can come to the Danada Model Farm and Equestrian Center to learn growing crops of corn and soybeans, farming methods of the 1950s and 1960s, as well as history of the country's Midwest. Another program offered at FOD is the popular Fall Festival which consists of equestrian shows, horse drawn hayrides, visits to the Danada Model Farm on tractor drawn hayrides, an art show, food, entertainment, and other activities for the children.
In recent years, FOD has been working to assist local youths with pursuing higher education with the two scholarships offered. The first created was the Friends of Danada Agricultural Scholarship, rewarded to graduating high school seniors planning to pursue a college degree in plant sciences, animal sciences, agricultural business, or environmental sciences. This scholarship was established in late 2020. The second and more recent is the Don Nash History Scholarship. This is rewarded to graduating high school seniors pursuing a degree in general history, American history, public/applied history, or art history. This scholarship was established earlier this year. Both are $1,000 scholarships awarded to students graduating from Wheaton, Naperville, or Glen Ellyn high schools.
Last year we made a blog post stating the winner of the Friends of Danada Agricultural Scholarship local Naperville teen Kaitlyn Young who graduated from Naperville North High School last May. This year we are pleased to announce we have two recipients of the Agricultural Scholarship. This year’s recipients are Reagan Black and Mya Vivian Nanninga of Naperville Central High School! Both young ladies have been recommended by their teacher and FFA advisor, Mr. Nolan Moss, and are receiving $1,000 to further their education.
Miss Black is planning to major in Animal Sciences at University of Illinois and Miss Nanninga is planning on attending College of DuPage to pursue a major in Agricultural Sciences. Both of these students have amazing academic records and excellent work ethic that have been attested by Mr. Moss.
If anyone has or knows of a teenager who will become a senior next Fall and plans to go to college to pursue any of the degrees listed with the scholarships, please check out more information on each scholarship on our website here.
