Naperville Teen Wins FOD Scholarship
The Friends of Danada (FOD) not only remember the awards won by the Kentucky Derby horses that were owned by Dan and Ada Rice, but give out awards as well! The FOD Scholarship Award is a $1,000 scholarship that is given to a selected, local, and graduating high school senior from a school that offers agricultural and FFA (Future Farmers Association) classes. This student must be planning to further their education at a college to major in the following: plant sciences, animal sciences, agricultural business, or environmental sciences. This scholarship is connected to FOD’s history in that the Danada estate once bred horses for the Kentucky Derby and currently runs a model farm.
This year, the lucky high school senior that was presented with this scholarship was local Naperville teen Kaitlyn Young who has graduated from Naperville North High School in May. Young plans to major in veterinary technology at Murray University in Kentucky. She was recommended by her teacher and FFA advisor, Lauren Francis. Young’s academic record, her work ethic, experience, and her scholarship application all made her the ideal candidate for this award. FOD is excited to be able to give Kaitlyn Young this well-deserved scholarship and wish her luck as she continues her education and chosen career path.
We are currently looking for candidates for next year’s scholarship. Below is a link to download the information and application for the Friends of Danada Scholarship Award.
