Dan and Ada Rice were enormous supporters of the arts during their lifetime, Ada herself was a painter. To honor this, the Friends of Danada hosts the Danada Nature Art and Photo Show during the Danada Fall Festival hosted by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. People can register to have their photography and artwork on display. Winners in each category will win a ribbon as well as a cash reward!

Rules

• Open to all photographers and artists, each contestant may submit a maximum of two pieces. Entry fee is $10 per piece entered in the show.

• As the theme suggests, all works submitted must show some aspect of our natural environment with NO indication of human interference. Works must be of United States (excluding Hawaii) and Canadian wildlife, plant life, or landforms. All work must clearly identify with one of the following categories

  • Animals: Wildlife only in an unrestrained setting, this includes mammals, fish, and birds. No jungle or domesticated animals such as dogs, cats, cows, and etc. Wild horses in natural areas are permitted.

  • Plants: Wild plants and trees only, cultivated plants such as gardens and house plants are not accepted.

  • Scenery: Landscapes and seascapes must not give any hint of human presence. This excludes things such as farm scenes, park scenes, boats, fences, churches, bridges, telephone poles, and man-made paths.

• Photographers: All photo prints must be framed with glass or plexiglass and a wire for hanging (no toothed hangers!) Maximum dimensions for any individual piece is 24” x 30” framed. Entries may be in color or black and white. Please include your name, address, phone number and title of work on the back of the submitted piece. Digital prints are accepted with no MAJOR computer modifications.

• Artists: All works must be original. Acceptable media includes: oils, acrylics, water colors, pastels, pen and ink, pencil, scratch board, original handmade prints, and airbrush. NO COMPUTER PRINTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. All works must be framed with a wire for hanging. Maximum dimensions for any individual work is 36” x 48” when framed. Entries include color or black and white. Please include your name, address, phone number and title of work on the back of the submitted piece.

• We ask that all artists sign a release that allows us to post a photo of them and their winning artwork on our website.
